Did you hear about Jeff Abrams...he's written a wonderful new book! After reading Jeff’s artfully styled “Sticks and Stones”, I came away wondering only one thing - when is his next book coming out? Jeff is a master with the pen. This missive on the power of gossip is the best book I’ve read in several years. The book will convict and heal you: Convict you of your own careless gossip and help your hurts from the gossiper’s lips to begin healing. I wish I could require every adult Bible class in our brotherhood to study to this book. Like the title of this book? So do I! It is a book long overdue for everyone, especially for those in the church. You will love the content within these pages even more, as Jeff Abrams shares the results, and recommendations, gleaned from more than twenty-five years of study and local ministry. May the Lord bless us in the wise use of His Word, and our words. Jeff Abrams’ book on the tongue, Sticks and Stones, is chock full of helpful reminders to keep us from uttering hurtful words. Virtually every sentence on every page is quotable. If you read this book and have any inclination toward gossiping, it will “step on your tongue.” Jeff Abrams has written an excellent book identifying a universal problem that destroys relationships and causes great harm to the innocent and the guilty alike.
Thankfully, he does not leave the reader with alarm and regret. Instead, he offers practical and powerful solutions. This book blessed me and I highly recommend Sticks and Stones to any person or study group. My former student, Jeff Abrams, has written an excellent book about the sinfulness of gossip, which I commend for study. Jeff has a way with words that makes the book both interesting and compelling. You craft your words in a delightful and useful way to draw in your reader (even teasing him sometimes) in order to hit your target with amazing accuracy. I immensely enjoyed the read and, in fact, once started - found it difficult to put down. Your illustrations and stories, while sometimes making me laugh (even out-loud), always made me think about the point you were illustrating. I find this something many people cannot do well, but you are the exception. I found Sticks and Stones to fill an empty niche, being a book not only about our speech, but about “gossip” and other hurtful speech. No one can read this book without being challenged to never speak inappropriately or in such a way that might hurt another. It is well written and biblically sound with needed applications for all Christians. "Sticks and Stones" is a good try to help people understand more about what we say. Gossip, bad words... it is one of the huge problems in this world, and in Ukraine also. And I think that "Sticks and Stones" will help me to help others better understand that all of us need to control our tongue. I am waiting for this book in Russian translation to share with others. Sticks and Stones encourages Christ-likeness and does not condemn, but instead warns both the gossiper and listener, offering hope to the offenders and providing encouraging words for the offended as well. A book that applies to all ages, it holds your attention, and as you are reading it, causes self-examination. This new book by Jeff Abrams addresses a topic almost as old as creation: words-- their use and misuse. As old as the topic is, Jeff's fresh treatment and some light moments help emphasize the deadly seriousness of his message. Grab a copy and meet "blabaholics" (and learn how NOT to be one). Learn the difference between "chocolate words" and "broccoli words". Learn the best response when somebody says, "I've got to tell somebody about this!" Learn how God expects us to use His great gift of words. From the "Welcome (With a Warning)" beginning to the final chapter concerning "Your Tongue on Judgment Day" this book is written in a way that's easy to read, hard to put down. It contains a discussion and study guide and would make excellent Bible class material for any group of teens or adults. If all of us read and acted on the lessons in Jeff Abrams' Sticks and Stones, the world would be a better place. Sticks and Stones is written in a style and form easy to understand and with words and thoughts that both amuse and convict. It is loaded with reminders from Scripture and life that our words about others often reveal more about us than about them. In Sticks and Stones Jeff Abrams has addressed in a powerful, practical and helpful way an area of human relationships in which the father of lies is too often allowed to have his way. “Sticks and Stones” is well written, full of Scripture and full of wisdom about the words we use. It’s very strong and very needed. This is a book to tell others about. I pray many will read it.” Sticks and Stones is a hard-hitting, non-fat, no-fluff treatment of one of the most insidious hazards facing Christians—the tongue. Every sentence is well researched, passionately written and woven into a well-organized, user-friendly format, which is destined to become a classic in our brotherhood. The book should be read every six months! "Given Jesus' warning about our words in Matthew 12:33-37 careful consideration of the words and phrases we use in our conversations, criticisms, and commendations is long overdue. Jeff Abrams does us all a great service in Sticks and Stones to encourage this necessary spiritual examination. Sticks and Stones calls us to think before we speak. Is there a greater need among men? Words have the power to build and to tear down. They reveal the heart and soul, and they determine our eternal destiny. Jeff Abrams reminds us to guard our lips as carefully as we guard our souls. "Do not read this book!" I am putting these words in the mouth of Satan. The devil cannot possibly want anyone to read Sticks and Stones. In Jeff's book you will discover a sound Biblical resource for overcoming Satan's most vicious and effective weapon, the tongue. |
